While she was originally inspired to write a piece on graffiti around the city, Kasey started out her abcd career with a piece on the lasting memorials and impacts of the University and Charlottesville’s complex history with slavery. Her interest lies primarily in people and their identities, as well as how they are (mis)represented in various forms of media, from journalism to TV and film.
Kasey is a Third-Year at U.Va in the Area Program of Poetry Writing (APPW) and Media Studies majors. She loves thinking about the ways in which words and visuals intersect and affect people, which makes abcd’s emphasis on long-form journalism with an assortment of incredible graphics and photos very compelling to her. In addition to The Cavalier Daily, Kasey is the Editor-in-Chief of The Q* Anthology of Queer Culture, an annual literary magazine that provides a platform for members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community to share their work and experiences in dialogue with one another. When she’s not reading or writing, she is most likely her hosting board game nights with her friends.
